I held a shotgun to my grandfather's head while he slept

My grandfather was extremely emotionally abusive. He always talked down to me and made me feel extremely small. I never felt that I could amount to what he was. His harsh punishments, in retrospect weren't that horrible, before a young, 13 year old boy living in deep east Texas, they were so shattering.

One night, I grabbed a 410 shotgun, walked into his room, held it up to the side of his head, and I did pull the trigger. Stupid me forgot that I didn't load the damn shotgun. I knew that racking would wake him up, so I just kept back to my room, I went back to bed.

We have an okay relationship now, but for one moment, as a child, he almost didn't wake up. I haven't told him, and I wont.

AITA For not wanting to work extra overtime so my co-workers with kids don't have to?

So I recently started a job at a new company as an engineer. As a consulting firm our hours very much depend on clients needs and can result in a lot of overtime and out of town buisness trips.

I was talking to my boss the other day and he mentioned that we may be doing a lot of work out of town in the next couple weeks and he said that because I am the only one without kids I will be the one doing almost all of the extra work. He said it would be unfair to send people with family's away.

When he first said this to me it kind of made sense and I went about my day but I have been thinking about it and I think it is super unfair. Just because I have chosen to live my life a certain way does not mean that my time is any less valuable outside of the office.

I wouldn't be so offended if it was a "you're new so here's extra work." Or if I only had to do some of this extra overtime and out of town trips and I could split it with coworkers who are equal with me on the totem pole, but I am offended that I am being stuck with all of it due to my relationship and life status. My boyfriend, parents, friends, and siblings would love to see me more often but apparently that is irrelevant?

I was telling a friend of mine who has a family about my dilemma and they told me that I was being kind of a bitch because the people with kids should spend time with them, and while I agree that if you have children you should try and spend a lot of time with them, but that isn't really on me.

Even typing this I feel like I sound like a terrible person. What do you think?

Edit: some of my grammar errors were bugging me!

Edit 2: For people who have asked, I am hourly, I will not be salary until I am eligible to get my P.E. license in 2 years. Salaried professional engineers get to basically do what they want at the office which I don't mind, they earned that.

That being said while I am new to the company I have been in the field for a couple years and still pull seniority within the company over some people, i.e. I got my own office instead of a cubicle, I train people, etc. The people who are getting less hours to spend time with their family's are other EIT similar to age and work status/level as me (some younger)

Edit 3: I don't plan on making a scene or a big deal about this besides some internet complaining and complaints to friends. I love my job for all other aspects besides some of my bosses less than desirable comments. I am not insensitive, which is why I questioned my stance, I understand that kids get sick, special events in your kids life happen and such and I would be happy to cover something. Esspecially if a co worker asked me, but I just get upset when I feel like my commitments are not being validated due to my lack of children. I will work reasonable overtime and jobs to further my career, but I will also be sure any important weekend or travel conflicts of mine are expressed to my boss.

17 and pregnant... what do I do

First off, I apologize to anyone who believes that I am extremely stupid for having pre-marital sex or just a stupid teenager in general.

I have been dating my boyfriend for 2 years, having sex for just about three months now. I am a 4.0 student in school and don't have anything near to a social life. I grow up in an extreme household with both parents being physically abusive and a father who is extremely mentally ill. I am supportive of people who choose to keep their pregnancies, however, I am not wanting to do so.

I have too much of a future that I would like to achieve and would not want to go through a pregnancy that I will not have the ability to be the best parent I can be. I want to be a mother, just not at this time in my life. I want a stable life for my future children and would not be able to provide one as a teenager. You may be thinking to yourself, if you want to achieve so much in your future why did you choose to have sex? Well, I have no good response to answer that and agree it was a stupid thing to do.

My plan for today was to go to my closest Planned Parenthood and talk about my options. I am assuming I have been pregnant for 3 weeks at the very most and have been continuing to take my birth control pills. I don't have much money but I am willing to pay all the money I have to terminate this pregnancy.

I would just like to know if anyone has experienced a teenage pregnancy, abortion, or the fear of being pregnant and what you did/what experience did you have?

Poly relationships are mostly destined for failure

For some reason, this site has obsessive defense mechanism for poly relationships. I'm not deleting my comments though, which were downvoted to shit.

"Because monogamous relationships never blow up right?" is a defense I see every time I have this argument.

You can't honestly believe poly relationships have the same success rate. How many happy old people poly relationships do you see? How many friends, parents, or celebrities, or youtubers, do you see having happy poly relationships?

It's inherently a cuckish design. Youre trying to be serious but at the same time seeing other people. Love triangles almost never end well. I've never seen a happy poly relationship yet ive seen so many try for one.

Monogamous or even friends with benefits, most of the time work a lot better. Having this uneven mix; serious feelings about the future yet fucking each other's friends, doesn't work. Humans are always going to have a bit of territorial tendency.

Being completely emotionally detatched, no strings or feelings, fucking for fun, OR being emotionally and physically exclusive to one another, have always been the better two options. Polyamory is an unstable, unpredictable, and psychologically damaging mix of the two.

Why it's vehemently supported and defended to be poly on this site is beyond me.

What I wish people told me before I got $16,000 in CC debt

Quick background. I got my first credit card by accident. I thought I was filling out a “loyalty card” at Cabelas. Ended up being a line of credit. I was 23.

4 short years later and married with a baby girl, I find myself with $16,000 in credit card debt. I actually saved my very last dollar and have it taped to my steering column in my truck. And when I say last dollar I truly mean it. We had negative balance in the bank and overtaxed all our cards.

Less than two years later, we now have $16,000 in savings and no credit card debt. (We finance one of our cars)

Credit card debt is crippling. My dad calls it the ULTIMATE SLAVEMASTER. It forces you into depression almost by default and controls every aspect of your life.

Here’s my list and I hope it helps you. I’m no guru, I just learned the hard way.

You will not pay it off later. When ‘later’ comes, you’ll be buying other things to pay off later.
Read Dave Ramsey’s money makeover. It’s got good tips and the tactics work.
The Jones’ can suck it. They’re miserable and controlled by debt also. Don’t buy things you don’t need to compete with people you don’t care for anyways.
Pick up a side hustle. I taught myself to make skateboards, and would handmake 2-3 a week to sell to help pay off the debt. My wife picked up Birth photography
Talk to your boss, ask what you can do to take a bigger paycheck home.
Be a bitch about your budget. Set it and don’t stray from it.
Put post-it notes with $0.00 written on them at the office, in your car, on your mirror, on your phone background. Seeing that everywhere actually reminded me of my goal of achieving $0.00 CC debt. Not sure if it legit made a difference but I think it might’ve
Become emotionless toward money. I would get so pissed that I was dumping hundreds of my paycheck into debt payoff. It was only till I stopped giving a f#&@ that it became easier to make bigger payments.
Save nothing until it’s paid off. It doesn’t make sense to save money when you have CC debt growing exponentially in the opposite direction.
When in doubt... overpay. If you run short on money in your checking, but whoop, dip into the CC for 50 bucks. Keep basically nothing in your bank account because “you spend what you have.” My family could live off of $75 a week. But if we have $300 to live off of, guess what... we would use $300. So I would always put as much as made sense. A few times I overpaid but it forced us to be frugal.
Unsave your cards on Amazon. So if you go to buy something you have to go through the hassle of finding the card and filling in the fields.

These are just some of the silly things I picked up along the way that I think would’ve helped me stay out of the mess. We are so happy now that we worked our butts off to become financially stable. I hope this helped!

AITA for caling my step mom "obese"?

A little background info: I'm a tall dude. 6'4 to be exact. And on the skinny side of the weight spectrum. Safe to say I'm pretty insecure about my frame. My step mom on the other hand is short and on the overweight side of the spectrum. So apparently she loves calling me out on my frame every time we have a family outing or dinner. I've told my dad that it bothers me and he said to "just play it cool" and that it's "just how she is". I just let it slide.

Recently my dad held a family gathering at the city beach. Everything's going good and I'm rekindling with cousins I haven't seen in months. Here comes Angry Step Mom stomping up to us, grinning ear to ear, and blurting out how "skeletons shouldn't be caught swimming" how it's a "hazard" for "sticks" to swim. My cousins giggle in what I can only assume is nervous laughter. I reply with " as long as we're being safe we should also stop the obese whales from swimming, right?" Her previous smile becomes a frown and she stomps off to who knows where.

My dad overhead the whole thing and scolded me about how I was "out of line" and disrespectful. My cousins also agree with my dad and one even said it was "douchey", yet no one says anything about Angry Step Mom. She has done this countless times and I've always played it cool but this time was the last straw for me... AITA?

Edit: I forgot to mention this but yes, I have confronted her 1 on 1 about this multiple times. She's laughed me off and gaslight me each and every time I've tried having an adult conversation with her..

Wayne Rooney continues to add to his highlight reel in Major League Soccer. On Wednesday night he scored DC United from beyond the halfway line for one of the best goals of his long career.

The goal came in the 10th minute of DC’s game against Orlando City. Rooney picked up the ball in his own half and say Orlando goalkeeper Brian Rowe well off his line. He proceeded to drive the ball over Rowe, and was promptly mobbed by his teammates. It proved to be the only goal of the game.

United extends ban on Boeing 737 Max after regulator finds new problem

United Airlines has become the latest carrier to extend its ban on using the Boeing 737 Max after the US aviation regulator said it had identified a new potential risk with the plane.

As the Federal Aviation Administration said on Wednesday that Boeing must address the new issue before the jet can return to service, United joined American and Southwest in continuing to ground the plane through August.
